This Varied Thrush male was discovered by Mike Creese at Avenue A in Brackenridge Park on November 8, 2004. Martin Reid graciously gave permission to use this photo and has a couple more here. Great bird for our area and many have already flocked to see it.

Three photos of an immature female Red Crossbill from Kingsbury, Texas (a small town west of Seguin, in the Bastrop area) that was found on May 31, 2004 and brought to San Antonio for care on June 1. longspur
This longspur female, found by Bob Doe on Mechler Road in southwest Bexar County, created quite a stir as to the correct ID. It was a Smith's at first but later identified as a Chestnut-collared. It was an interesting and educational time for birders. Photo by Willie Sekula, April 3, 2004

loon
On the morning of Monday, June 17th, 2001, a Pacific Loon  was found in a parking lot in central to west-central Bexar County and brought into a veterinary hospital.  Thanks to Doc Greg Lisciandro or bringing it to our attention. The bird was later transferred to Tim Ajax at Wildlife Rehab & Rescue in Boerne, Texas. The bird was determined to be in good health and was released in Boerne City Lake on the afternoon of June 18th. These photos were taken by Tim Ajax and used here with his permission.  Two more photos: here and here.

Magificent Frigatebird in front of the smoke stack at Calaveras Lake. This and other pelagic birds were found on Sat. 9/12/98 blown in by Tropical Storm Frances. The white breast and brownish head make this a sub-adult female. More photos of the bird: 3, 4, 5.
