for info or area assignments. There is a $5.00 participation fee to pay for the
compiling and publication of data. Count totals are tallied at a local
restaurant after a day in the field.

Annual trip for brush country birds SE of San Antonio. Take I-37 south to FM 99,
exit right to Whitsett. Go through the small town of Whitsett, past the railroad

Wear heavy shoes for walking around in the brush. We may stop and the feed lot
on the way back to look for sandhill cranes and snow geese. Contact Georgina

entrance gate at Calaveras Lake at 7:45 AM. We will have the opportunity
to bird the primitive area which is closed to the general public so it will
be necessary to be on time. Take I-37 South to Highway 181 exit Floresville
(exit right, loop over). Proceed to Loop 1604. Take Loop 1604 N east to Stuart
Road. Turn left on Stuart Road and take the first left into the park. Will be
looking for gulls and winter birds including sparrows. Bring lunch and water.
After birding Calaveras we will continue on to Braunig Lake. Entrance
fee-$4.00-good for both parks. Reminder: Saturday is the end of Daylight
Savings Time.

exit De Zavala and drive west about 1.75 miles to the light at Babcock Road.
Turn right on Babcock, the Greenway parking is about 0.7 miles on the left.
Depending on the time after birding the Greenway we can drive to Crownridge
Canyon Natural Area to bird the park. There are several restaurants close, lunch
is a possibility.

Fall Trip to Warbler Woods
This will be a great time to look for fall migrants at Don and Susan Schaezler's
place in Cibolo. There will be opportunities to walk around their property or
sit in the yard and watch the birds come to the feeders. You are welcome to
bring your lunch and stay awhile. From San Antonio take IH 37 toward Austin.
Take exit #176(Wiederstein). Turn right on Wiederstein Road at the overpass.
Turn left at the next Old Wiederstein road. After you pass Dean Road their
property begins on the right. Go to 19349 Old Wiederstein at the green mailbox.

is located in the NW corner of Corpus Christi in the community of Calallen. From
IH 37, take Exit 14, which is Hwy 77 South to Kingsville. Less than one half
mile south of Exit 14 is FM 624 (Up River Road). Turn west (right) on 624 for
0.7 miles to a
traffic light. The entrance to the park is on the right. Follow this road to the
entrance, then bear left and follow the signs to the Hawk Watch. This is full
day trip. Bring lunch, drinking water, sunscreen, sunglasses, and a chair.

Meet leader Helen Rejzek 679-7437 at the Skimmer dock in Fulton no later than
12:20 PM. Please be prompt! The Skimmer is located at 216 N. Fulton Beach Road.
Take TX 35 through Rockport. You will make a right on Cactus Street. Turn left
on Beach Street/S.Fulton Beach Road. You will see the sign for Rockport Birding
and Kayak Adventures, that is where we will be departing. Drinks and food are
allowed on the boat.We will return at 4:30PM. At this time the tour is full. You
can call Helen Rejzek to see if there has been any cancellations. Cost is $32.00
per person, that needs to be paid in advance. No refunds unless your spot can be
filled.
For the people who are spending Saturday night in the Rockport/Fulton area there
will be time to bird some areas nearby before heading to the Skimmer.

Corpus Christi; arrive early if you want to bird there. About 2 hours south of

534. Turn right on 534 toward Dinero and go about a half mile; park off the road
before you reach the causeway. Carpooling is encouraged; Jean will lead the caravan

Meet SAAS leader at the south gate entrance of the Carriage House at 8:45 AM
sharp, gates are locked at 9:00 AM; walk ends at about 11 AM. Admission

From 37 South: Take I-37 south (about 60 miles) to Exit 88, Road 1099.
Turn left onto 1099. Travel 1099/407 12 miles to the first stop sign. Turn right
at the stop sign onto 2924.Travel on 2924 for less than a mile to 99. Turn left
on 99.Travel on 99 for about 3 miles to 2102.Gate will be on the right, in about
1/8 miles.
From 181 South: Take 181 South about 60 miles, through Floresville, Poth,
Falls City, to Karnes City. At the Big B gas station just past the new
prison, turn right onto FM 99. Take FM 99 through Coy City to the intersection
of 2102.(12.8 miles) Turn left on 2102. Gate will be on the right after 1/8
mile.

SAAS Beginner’s Bird Walk
Meet leader Georgina Schwartz at Judson Nature
Trails next to Alamo Heights swimming pool. At 5900 block of Broadway in
Alamo Heights, turn west on Ogden to stop sign at Greely Street. Turn left one
block, then right on Viesca to small parking lot on left before the swimming
pool. Binoculars available, everyone is welcome.![]()

SAAS field trip to McAllister Park. Meet leaders Bill and Marian
Collins at the first parking lot inside the park. From the corner of Jones-Maltzberger
and Starcrest just north of San Antonio International Airport take Jones-Maltzberger
north about 0.75 miles to the park entrance (just past the police station). The
first parking lot will be on your left about 1/4 mile inside the park. Great
park to look for winter visitors!
