Cibolo Nature Center

Meet leaders Barbara and Dennis Trujillo (210/867-0719, 210/410-8345, or skeeter78240@yahoo.com) in the main parking lot of the center. Take I -10 West toward Boerne. Take first Boerne exit, US 87, until TX 46 turns right at the Cibolo Creek bridge. Turn right on TX 46 and follow to the edge of town and sign on the right to Boerne City Park and Cibolo Nature Center. Go to the end of the road to the parking lot. After Cibolo Nature Center, we'll go to Boerne City Lake Park where there is a fee of $12 per vehicle. We will try to carpool from Cibolo Nature Center. Bring snack and water, lunch at the Hungry Horse. Please contact Barbara or Dennis if you plan to attend.

Leon Vista Park

Meet leader Jane Henry at Leon Vista Park trailhead (8561 Rochelle Road). From I-10, exit on Huebner heading west. You will cross Babcock at the traffic light; the next light is Whitby Road. Turn right on Whitby, which curves left. Continue past Abe Lincoln, then Whitby dead ends at Rochelle Road. Looking left, see entrance and small parking lot. If parking is not available, please turn left on Rochelle and park off the road in front of building 8561, HQ for the SA Park Police. At times we will walk in creekbed or bike trail, so please wear appropriate footwear. Bring snacks and water.

Haggard Ranch

Meet Metha at her ranch in South Bexar County. Go south on IH-35 about 4 miles south of Loop 1604. Take Exit 137 (Shepherd Road); go left over the freeway, take another left on the northbound access road. Drive 0.5 mile to the gate (cattle guard). The gate lock combo is 2473. Please make sure the gate is closed once you drive through. Go over second cattle guard and go left at the fork to the house. Bring snacks and water. For info, call Metha at 210/622-3886.

Meet Jane Crone in Fredericksburg in the HEB parking lot on the corner of S Adams (Hwy 16) and E. Ulfer Street. There is an Inn at the corner of US 87 and Ulfer; turn left there to get to HEB, where we will form carpools. We will decide then to go either to Enchanted Rock SNA first or the city sewage ponds. At the end of the Medina River bridge entering Castroville, turn left in front of the Landmark Inn onto Florence Street and follow signs to the park. Braunig and Calaveras Lakes

Meet leaders Chris Bailey (210/621-3025) and Tim Katafias in the parking lot next to the boat ramp at Braunig Lake inside the entrance to the park. Braunig Lake is south of San Antonio on I-37. Take I-37 south past the Loop 410 intersection. Exit at Southton Rd and take a left leading under the interstate overpass. Take a rigth on the I-37 access road going south (The access roads handle two lane traffic). Proceed to Braunig Lake Park gate, turn left into the park. Afterwards, we will go to Calaveras Lake. Bring snacks and water. (note: This walk was originally scheduled for Feb 2, but has been rescheduled for Feb 23.)
Entrance fee is $5.00.

Meet leader Mariann Golden at 8:00 am. Directions from SE Loop 410 exit on Rigsby and go west. Turn left onto Pecan Valley. The entrance to the park will be on the left. Go right after you enter the park and go around the lake, park near the blue port a potty. Easy walking. Bring snacks and water, lunch at a local restaurant.

We will cover part of the park and walk a section of the new Salado Creek Greenway extension. The park is on the west side of Blanco Road just north of Wurzbach Parkway. Drive into the parking lot and the building is on the north end. Bring water and snacks.

We will carpool. Once in the primitive area the gates will be locked behind us. Take I-37 South past Loop 410.Take Highway 181 exit to Floresville; exit right, loop over. Proceed to Loop 1604.Take Loop 1604 N to Stuart Street. Go left, and then take a left into the park. Bring water, snacks and insect repellent. Wear appropriate footwear; will be walking through brushy areas. Entrance fee is $5.
Time permitting, we will bird Braunig Lake. Lunch at a local restaurant.

Meet at Leslie Linehan’s house to start the walk at 8:00 AM, but arrive as early as 7:00 to watch feeders for hummers and orioles. Directions: Take 281 North toward Spring Branch. Take the first road on the right past 306, which is Hillside Drive, entering the Lake of the Hills development. Pass the stone gate, go straight and down the hill, turn left and park. Birds & Brew Field Trip

Join Jason "the Bird Nerd" St. Sauver for a new type of birding field trip, "Birds and Brew." Jason, the Education and Operations Manager at Mitchell Lake
Audubon Center, will lead this fun and social bird walk around Denman Estates Park, 7735 Mockingbird Lane in NW San Antonio near Fredericksburg Rd.
After the walk, all are invited for birding discussions and drinks at the Flying Saucer, 11255 Huebner Rd. Watch for more trips like this in coming months, where the brew may be coffee. For more info, contact Jason (917/742-9822).

Meet Georgina Schwartz (210/342-2073) at the Judson Nature Trails. From Broadway at the 5900 block, turn west on Ogden Street to the stop sign at Greely St. and the sign to the Nature Trails. Turn left, go one block and turn right on Viesca to the parking lot on the left before the swimming pool.Map

Crescent Bend Nature Park

Meet leader Sandi Wheeler (wheels5683@gmail.com) in the parking lot of the park. From San Antonio, take IH-10 east to the FM 1518 exit and go north towards Schertz. Look for a brown park sign at Schafer Road. Turn right and go 3 miles to the park. Entrance will be on your left before Cibolo Creek. Bring water & snacks.
